Store in a cool, dry location. Refrigerate or freeze for extended storage.. Feed cockatiels 2 - 4 tablespoons daily. Adjust portions for proper weight maintenance and when feeding additional pets. Discard any uneaten food and clean dish before each feeding. We had five parrots, some we’ve had for decades. Each are a different species.

We fed the smaller parrots this out of the same bag. It was the second time we purchased it through Amazon.

A few days after eating this food the celestial parrot died. In that she was a Rescue we had no idea how old she was but she’d been healthy and nothing was out of the ordinary.

Three days later our Quaker parrot died. We knew he was only 5 1/2 years old. He too was healthy and happy.

There were no changes except this new bag of food.

The other three parrots who did not eat from this bag are fine.

    We are seriously grieving.

    Feathered family members are dead!

We’d be heartbroken had we only lost the one celestial parrot, for no apparent reason, but to have two beloved birds die within a week, after owning them for years, and the only thing in common was a new bag of this feed makes us very suspicious. Again, the birds who didn’t eat this food are healthy.

I usually get a seed mix like this to blend in with pellets so that my ‘tiel gets a good variety of food on a daily basis (20% seeds and 80% natural pellets). I usually get a better mix from our local store but it’s twice as expensive as this, so I figured I’d give it a try since I’m just mixing small quantities of it with other food anyways.

My bird doesn’t really like this mix. I find that she’s picking around the stuff she doesn’t like and only eating the small seeds that settle to the bottom. I don’t like how many sunflower seeds are in this mix—I had to pick out several cups worth because there was so much. They’re okay in very small quantities due to their fat content or can be used as treats for training. I also am not a fan of the dye used in this product...it’s totally unnecessary for a bird to eat, so why give it to them? Even if it’s “all natural” coloring, I can’t think of a single food they’d eat in the wild that is neon blue. 🤔

This is OK food for temporary use, but I really wouldn’t use this food as a long term diet for them.

For the price, I think this bird feed has good quality. I have two cockatiels that ate this for a few months. However, one of my cockatiels is a super picky eater and was only picking out the seeds (sunflower seeds in particular). Birds in the wild need a lot of energy, so birds typically go for the high-fat seeds. Unfortunately, in captivity this leads them to developing problems with their health. My picky cockatiel got this large lump on his underside which is a result of a fat deposit developing from eating too many fatty foods (the seeds). This can be really bad for the bird''s health because it can get infected, block him from pooping, etc.

Thankfully, I took my cockatiel to a vet pretty early on (it was expensive) and we''ve put him on a diet plan to try and shrink the fat deposit. The vet recommended that I slowly switch my bird over to pellet feed instead of seeds, and one of her pellet feed brand suggestions was from this same company (Kaytee). The pellet feed is a bit more pricey but still really cheap, so I''m giving it a try.

I suggest saving yourself some vet bills and go for pellet feed instead. BUT, if your bird is currently on a mainly seed diet, make sure to look up a guide for converting your bird''s diet to a pellet diet. If you just switch out the foods, they might not see the pellets as food and starve themselves. My other cockatiel, who is not as picky, is completely healthy eating this seed mix, but I''m switching him to pellets too, just in case.

TLDR feed your birds pellet food, not a seed mix. It''ll make them healthier.

I’ve been buying this brand of cockatiel food for years. My bird is 26 years old so I’m assuming he’s getting the proper nutrients. My one complaint though is the packaging. If you cut carefully according to the directions, you’ll have a ziplock to keep the food fresh and the bugs out. Not once in the hundreds of packages I’ve had has that EVER worked! Why? Because one side of the zip peels off the package itself. And it doesn’t matter if you open this as carefully as performing heart surgery. The zip isn’t attached to the packaging on one side! It’s so frustrating each one I get I think, ok, THIS time I’m gonna do it! But....no. Otherwise it’s great food

This bag of food is probably the least healthy thing you could give to your bird. Many people buy birds and feed them THIS for their entire lives and a bird that should’ve lived 10-15 years only lives for 2 or 3. Birds should be on fresh food/pellet diets with very minimal seeds or seeds as treats (and it can be very hard to convert your bird on to the proper diet) but their are better seed alternatives. Kaytee animal products can be great but most, when it comes to foods are trash. Literally. Overpriced garbage and give our animals no nutrients. There are better seed alternatives if you don’t have the money to constantly spend on fresh food (in which case you shouldn’t even have a bird but unfortunately tons of people get them anyway) but this is poison essentially. I won’t be purchasing the bag again. The birds loved it of course but so would a kid eating ice cream everyday. Do your research before getting animals. Know their rightful diets and stop feeding them trash!

I have a Blue Crown and she eats anything really, but her favorite is the salfour and the larger bird food doesn''t have as much in the bag. She does love everything in the bag, but she is happier with salfour. So I got this kind. It doesn''t hurt to mix in between with the larger bird food. Blue Crowns are larger than regular Conures and my Sally has a big appetite. She has a very active day every day for an older bird. Kaytee is the best bird food out there. One person pointed out the hot pepper. Yes, even peppers are nutritious and do we really know if they are that hot to a bird. Well, mine just tosses it ;-) Guess she doesn''t care for it, but I''m sure some do. I like the idea of the variety. I just have a spoiled bird. Eventually exposed to it enough times they will try it and maybe eat it. Growing up we weren''t exposed to lots of different foods and we are all fussy eaters, so I value variety and seeings my bird is like a child to me, that is what she gets. I questioned it the first time myself, but after thinking about it, I don''t now. The food is always fresh, I have never seen an expired date and the bag doesn''t most times 90% of the time look like you got the last bag ??? Bottom of the grain bin bag. Whenever I buy parrot food, it is always Kaytee, for a mixed cocktail it''s VitaKraft and I just get unsalted peanuts at the grocery store for my bird. My bird always gets the best. My husband once told me after looking into the fridge and saying that my bird eats better than we do. I asked him if he would like a bowl of seed ;-) Case Closed.

The eggs or larvae are in the seed, and presumably turn into moths. The second time we used a sealed container, and the moths were inside, and got released when we opened the cover. These are not the clothes eating moths, but "pantry moths" which enjoy laying eggs in your grains and cereals (unless you keep everything air tight). We are having to spend some money now with moth traps and hoping the infestation doesn''t get too far into our food. Do yourself a favor and don''t let this happen to you.
